Habanera : the name
The company name Habanera came from a friend who suggested the name
"Habanera Floppy Farm". We liked the Habanera part but were not
convinced that the "Floppy Farm" extension was such a good idea.
Habanera literally means "from Avana". Known as a Cuban folk dance,
it was born in the first half of the XIX century. Most people,
however, associate the name Habanera with a part of the famous opera
Carmen written by Georges Bizet. The name is also used for a very
fine brand of Cuban cigars.
Habanera : the logo
Although our primary goal was to make a logo that was visually
appealing, we also tried to give it a technical look. The white
brackets and the way in which the text HA-BA-NE-RA is ordered
represent a mathematical entity known as a matrix. Since matrices
are commonly used in numerical algorithms, they play an important
role in Habanera's products and services. The logo has a simple
graphical design so that it can be stored efficiently as a vector
image. Moreover, it is still readable when printed by low resolution
devices such as fax machines.
